Unfortunately I am not the decision maker for this endeavor. We have
had a successful residential paralegal program in place for ten years.
Students have textbooks, Westlaw, and Lexis as resources, but we need to
duplicate library materials via e-books. I would love to work on this
project with AAfPE to help develop a list, as I'm going through this. I
do believe a college is able to provide an exceptional program via
distance education while providing students the necessary skills to
perform paralegal duties.

Subject: aafpeeducator RE: online paralegal program
Shouldn't the decision whether or not to go "online" with your program
be
made based on whether or not "e-books and similar resources" exist?
The short answer is that "yes", these items exist and there are some
almost
hands free options that would call for very little instructor effort if
you
choose to go that route. On the other hand, you can create your own
materials and combine with some traditional resources to create a
quality
online course.
I think this inquiry begs many questions related to a debate that AAfPE
should take the lead on facilitating. We need to look at and take a
position on whether or not existing technology for both instructors and
students can allow the presentation of an entire paralegal program
"online"
and do so in a manner that allows for no loss of outcomes or quality.
Don't get me wrong. I have taught online courses since 98. I advocate
the
development of quality online courses and we have some online courses
within
our program. In those instances we determined that the courses were
similar
if not better experiences online. On the other hand, I am not yet
convinced
that we have reached a point in time when technology, support and
related
concerns dictate that an online version of my litigation course would
result
in a similar experience to what is provided by way of the traditional,
face
to face setting.
