20 steps to take to get going in your online class

 

 

Here are 20 steps to get going in your online class

1. Make sure you have added the class -check your SIS - upper right corner - http://lamission.edu -

2. Familiarize your self with student services and support - i.e. financial aid, accommodations, etc. see http://lamission.edu/de/student-services
3. Set up your computer - system requirements and download any programs

4. Look for an alternate computer if yours crashes

5. Check out the email address and webpage of your instructor - see directories - email your instructor for instructions

6. Make sure you class is entirely online or a hybrid or maybe not even online but web-enhanced - see SOCO

7. Look at http://lamission.edu/online to see how and where to login

8. All classes now use Canvas. 

9 Login to your class - etudes - look at overview and bookmark student resources for etudes. Watch video on modifying your account preferences in etudes.  Watch Logging In to ETUDES (Flash Movie) - Reading Modules and Participating in Discussions (Flash Movie) - Sending a Private Message (Flash Movie)

10. Successful online students login at the beginning of the week to review materials, get their assignments, and login daily to do their work, and email students or the instructor with questions (after carefully reading the materials)

11. Carefully read all course instructions, and how class works

12. Watch this Youtube video on Typical Day of an Online Student

13. Find your class syllabus and print or download

14. Set up a physical calendar with all of the due dates for quizzes, assignments, discussions - this will keep you on track

15. Time management - set aside days and times each week to do your quizzes, assignments and discussions

17. Check academic calendar and print it out see important deadlines and dates.

18. Check out how your grade is calculated and breakdown of points and any final projects, etc.
