Step by Step Procedure

Beginning Spring 2012, the following procedure adopted from Board Rule, Article XI; Student Discipline, should be used when dealing with a student discipline issue in your classroom.  Any form mentioned in this memo can be found on the LAMC website under Faculty Forms.

 

  •         Removal By Instructor

(a)   If suspended for one class meeting:

Action - You are encouraged to submit the Notice of Disciplinary Action for Violation of Standards of Student Conduct form to the Vice President of Student Services.

 

(b)   If a student is suspended from the day of the incident and the next class:

Action - You must submit the Notice of Disciplinary Action for Violation of Standards of Student Conduct form to the Vice President of Student Services, with cc’s to Department Chair, the appropriate Academic Dean, and the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

 

(c)   If the student who is being suspended for two class meetings is a minor, the Vice President of Student Services or designee shall notify the parents or guardians of the student involved in the incident, and shall hold a conference regarding the suspension as soon as possible with the student, his or her parent or guardian and the faculty member.

Action – None by faculty

 

(d)   The instructor may recommend to the Vice President of Academic Affairs that the student be suspended for longer than two class meetings. 

Action – Please contact Vice President of Academic Affairs.

 

(e)    Student may be suspended further as deemed by the Vice President of Student Services unless the student files an appeal, which will initiate the student hearing process, taking place within ten days of appeal. 

 

  •         Immediate Suspension

Action – Administrator must file Form SD2 (attached)
