Essential Academic Skills

 

 

1. Effective Reading and Communicating: students will directly demonstrate how to employ essential reading, writing skills, and/or speaking skills within the contect of the discipline.

 

2. Critical Thinking in the Discipline: students will engage in problem-solving activity that develops discipline related critical thinking and/or quantitative reasoning skills.

 

3. Seeking help from Academic Resources or Student Support Services -  students will explore, identify, and use a relevant student support service or academic resources on campus.

 

4. Purposeful collaboration - students will practice productive teamwork and collaborative strategies.

 

5. Self- Reflective Learning - students will relfect on their development as active learners within the discipline, including, for example self assessment of the development of their discipline-specific study skills, communication styles, reasoning skills and their plans for self-improvement.
