Welcome to Winter 2017 Law 1

David Jordan

VideoCanvas Overview (Student) - 7 mins video

I am Prof. David Jordan (Prof J), your online instructor for Bus. Law I for Winter 2017. I am also the Director of the Paralegal Studies Program at Mission. I have practiced law for 20 years in Glendale, as a private practice attorney, first with my own law practice, and then in a partnership. I practiced personal injury (plaintiff), "mom and pop" businesses, and then with my partner, bankruptcy on the debtor side. I have been teaching now for 20 years at Mission. I love the law and love teaching the law. I developed our completely online paralegal program certificate (12 law classes) in 2002, and it is now 15 years old.

When does the class open?  Well we opened it up today (12/27) so you can login and get acquainted with the class, the materials, the textbook, Canvas, and get ready. On Friday (12/30) we will open up the actual content in assignments, and quizzes and discussions so you can get a head start. The class formally starts on 1/3/17 and formally ends on Sunday evening, 2/5/17 @11:59 pm

Any other tips?  The class is very fast moving. Try to read ahead. You can do that by looking at the case problems, and looking at the class whiteboard and videos, and then read each case. Do not wait until you get your textbook to start work. You can read the chapter outlines to understand and take quizzes if necessary. Some students forget that each week there are class discussions, and you will lose an entire grade if you do not participate in the weekly discussions. If you are new to online classes, then make sure you take the online orientation. Carefully read all of the materials in the canvas course, and also at lamission.org.

Welcome aboard, and nice having you all as students.

Email or call me (818) - 415-2015 if you have any questions.

Prof J.
