Description: Learn how to easily build a rubric, exchange rubrics with others, assign it to student coursework, and assess student work using rubrics.

Abstract: Rubrics are great learning and assessment tools. They are used to describe what is expected of students and give them an indication of how involved their work should be. They are also great assessment tools for subjective areas as they provide assessors with a standard measurement tool with clear criteria. This presentation begins with describing rubrics, their usage, and their pros and cons. Then it will delve into building a rubric and its components. The audience will learn how to format and build a rubric using free online tools developed by the presenter. In the next step, audience learns how to assign the rubric to student coursework, letting students know of the assessment criteria ahead of time. Then, assessment using the rubric is described. The audience will learn how each criterion is graded, how the rubric total is calculated, and how the calculation is extrapolated into coursework grade. Finally, the audience will see how students see the assessed coursework, and how rubric has clarified the reason behind an assigned grade. The presentation covers the following: - Minutes 1-10: Introduction - Minutes 11-30: Create a simple rubric - Minutes 31-50: Assign the rubric to a coursework and assess coursework using the rubric - Minutes 51-60: Wrap up and Q&A
